From our ongoing work with ODM clients, several clear and impactful trends in outdoor furniture materials are defining the market. The dominant shift is toward sustainability. There's a strong, consistent demand for materials with recycled content, such as plastics reclaimed from oceans or post-consumer waste, and for responsibly sourced, certified woods like FSC-certified teak or acacia. This is no longer a niche request but a core specification.
Durability and low maintenance remain paramount, driving innovation in weather-resistant solutions. We are seeing increased interest in advanced powder-coated aluminum frames that offer superior rust prevention and a wider range of finishes. Furthermore, high-performance synthetic rattans and wickers have evolved to better resist UV degradation and extreme temperatures, ensuring longevity without sacrificing aesthetics.
A significant trend is the rise of composite materials. Clients are moving beyond traditional wood to request decking and furniture made from wood-plastic composites (WPC) or mineral-based composites. These materials offer the visual appeal of wood but with drastically reduced maintenance—no sealing, staining, or splintering. They are inherently resistant to moisture, rot, and insects.
Finally, there is a growing appreciation for textured and tactile surfaces. Smooth, plain plastics are giving way to materials that mimic natural weave patterns, stone textures, or brushed metals. This trend emphasizes creating an outdoor experience that feels both luxurious and connected to nature, using materials that are tough enough for the elements but sophisticated in detail.
