For ODM outdoor furniture projects, prototyping is a critical, collaborative phase that transforms concepts into tangible products. The process typically begins with in-depth client consultations to understand market needs, target audience, and aesthetic vision. Our design team then creates detailed 2D sketches and 3D digital models, allowing for virtual assessment of form, proportions, and style.
Material selection is paramount. We present clients with options for frames (powder-coated aluminum, treated steel, teak), textiles (UV-resistant, solution-dyed acrylics), and finishes, discussing the durability and maintenance implications of each. Once the design direction is approved, our engineering team develops technical drawings specifying joinery, dimensions, and assembly methods.
The first physical prototype, often a "looks-like" model, is built to validate aesthetics and ergonomics. This is followed by a "works-like" functional prototype, rigorously tested for stability, weight capacity, and weather resistance. We conduct in-house tests for factors like frame strength, fabric fade, and rust prevention. The client receives this sample for hands-on evaluation and feedback.
Iteration is standard. We refine the design based on client input, which may involve adjusting dimensions, changing a material, or modifying construction details. This cycle repeats until the prototype meets all specifications for design, comfort, and quality. Only after final sign-off do we proceed to tooling and pre-production samples, ensuring the manufactured units perfectly match the approved prototype. This meticulous, transparent process minimizes risks and ensures the final product is both beautiful and built to last for seasons outdoors.
