Measuring a corner for a custom planter box is a critical step to ensure a perfect fit and a professional finished look. Whether you’re filling an awkward nook, wrapping around a column, or creating a seamless L-shape, our factory precision starts with your measurements. Follow this step-by-step guide.
First, decide if you want the planter box to sit flush against both walls (inside corner) or wrap around an external corner (outside corner). For an inside corner, you need two measurements: the length along each wall from the corner point to the desired end of the box. Use a metal tape measure for accuracy. Press the tape firmly into the corner to get the full length, accounting for any baseboard or trim. If baseboards are present, decide whether the planter will sit in front of them or be cut to fit around them. For outside corners, measure the distance from the corner edge outward along each wall.
Next, measure the angle of the corner. While most interior corners are 90 degrees, older homes or uneven walls may vary. Use a digital angle finder or a simple carpenter’s square. Place the tool into the corner and record the exact angle. If you don’t have a tool, trace the corner onto a piece of cardboard and transfer it to a protractor. Our factory can fabricate planter boxes for angles from 80 to 100 degrees, so don’t assume a perfect 90.
Then, measure the height of the planter box. Decide the finished height based on your plants and the space. Measure from the floor up to the desired top edge. Also note the floor-to-ceiling clearance if the box will be tall. Finally, measure the depth (how far the box projects from the wall). For a corner planter, depth is typically equal on both sides, but you can customize.
Pro tip: Take all measurements twice and photograph the corner with a measuring tape in view. Send these photos and numbers to our factory. This helps us double-check for potential issues like unlevel floors or protruding outlets. Once we receive your measurements, our team will create a CAD drawing for your approval before production.
By following these steps, you ensure your custom corner planter box arrives perfectly sized, ready for assembly and planting. No gaps, no guesswork—just a beautiful addition to your space.
