At our outdoor bench factory, we understand that kids’ playgrounds demand the highest safety standards—especially when it comes to preventing splinters. We use a multi-step finishing process designed specifically for child-friendly environments.

First, we select premium, kiln-dried hardwoods that naturally resist cracking and splintering. After cutting and assembling the benches, we sand every surface meticulously, including edges, corners, and hidden underside areas, starting with coarse grits and progressing to fine 220-grit sandpaper. This ensures an ultra-smooth, velvet-like texture.

Next, we apply a water-based, non-toxic sealant that penetrates wood fibers, hardening them and creating a flexible yet durable barrier. This sealant is rigorously tested for safety and meets ASTM F963 playground equipment standards. We then follow with two coats of a UV-resistant, acrylic-polyurethane blend that cures into a hard, moisture-proof shell. This coating not only prevents splinters but also resists fading from sun exposure and cracking from rain or snow.

Finally, every bench passes a manual inspection where our team runs gloved hands over all surfaces to feel for any raised fibers or rough spots. Any imperfection is immediately re-sanded and recoated. The result: a smooth, splinter-free, and long-lasting finish that keeps children safe during active play, while maintaining a beautiful natural wood appearance for years.
