First, we start with high-quality, kiln-dried hardwoods such as teak or cedar, which are naturally resistant to splitting and cracking. Each plank is carefully inspected for knots and defects that could lead to splinters—any flawed pieces are immediately rejected.

Next, the wood undergoes a precision sanding process. We use industrial-grade sanders with progressively finer grits, starting at 80-grit to remove rough edges and moving up to 220-grit for a silky finish. This gradual smoothing eliminates microscopic fibers that could cause splinters.

After sanding, we apply a dual-layer protective finish. First, a penetrating oil conditioner is brushed on to seal the wood pores and reduce moisture absorption. Then, a UV-resistant polyurethane topcoat is spray-applied in a climate-controlled booth, creating a hard, flexible armor that resists weathering and splinter formation.

Finally, each bench seat is hand-inspected by our quality control team. They run gloved hands over every inch of the surface, feeling for any irregularity. Any bench that fails the touch test is returned for additional sanding or recoating.
