When you order a large bench from our outdoor bench factory, you might wonder: does it arrive ready to sit on, or does it come in a box of parts? The answer depends on your needs, shipping distance, and cost considerations. Here’s exactly how we handle shipping for large outdoor benches—and why both options work.
1. Fully Assembled Shipping (For Local or Freight-Savvy Buyers)
If you’re nearby or willing to pay for a freight carrier, we ship benches fully assembled. Each bench is wrapped in thick foam padding and stretch film, then placed inside a custom-fitted wooden crate with internal blocking to prevent movement. The crate is strapped to a pallet and loaded onto a liftgate truck. This option is ideal for showrooms, event venues, or customers who lack tools or assembly skills. Delivery costs are higher due to larger crate dimensions, but you get a “plug-and-play” experience.
2. Disassembled/Flat-Pack Shipping (For Long Distance & Cost Savings)
For cross-country or international orders, we disassemble the bench into key components: seat slats, backrest panels, armrests, legs, and mounting hardware. Each part is wrapped in bubble wrap and craft paper, then packed tightly into a compact, stackable flat-pack box. Hardware bags are taped to the seat slats. The box meets standard courier dimensions (e.g., UPS or FedEx ground) which dramatically reduces shipping costs. Assembly instructions are included, with pre-drilled holes and color-coded parts to make setup quick—typically 15–30 minutes with a screwdriver.
3. Material & Protection Matters
Whether assembled or disassembled, we use triple-layer protection: moisture barrier film, 10mm foam corner guards, and a reinforced corrugated outer box (or plywood crate for assembly). For teak or cedar benches, we also include desiccant packs to prevent mold during transit. Every package is tested for vibration and compression to survive long-haul trucking.
4. How to Choose the Right Option
- Choose assembled if: your location is within 50 miles of our factory, your property has a loading dock or ramp, and you want zero setup.
- Choose flat-pack if: you’re shipping over 200 miles, your budget is tight, or you need to store the bench before use.
5. Real-World Example
Last month, we shipped a 7-foot adirondack bench to a customer in Texas. Assembly was chosen: the crate weighed 180 lbs and cost $280 via LTL freight. Meanwhile, a flat-pack version of the same bench shipped to California at 55 lbs for just $45—and the customer assembled it in 22 minutes.
Your choice shapes the experience. We customize each shipment based on bench size, wood density (acacia vs. ipe), and destination. Want to see a time-lapse of our packing process? Ask us for a video demo.
