At our outdoor bench factory, we understand that powder-coated finishes—while exceptionally durable—can occasionally chip or peel due to extreme weather exposure, physical impact, or improper installation. To address this, we have developed a comprehensive protocol that emphasizes both prevention and reactive repair.
First, we use a multi-stage pre-treatment process that includes degreasing, chemical etching, and a zinc-rich primer layer. This ensures the powder coat adheres tightly to the metal substrate, significantly reducing the risk of future peeling. For outdoor benches intended for coastal or high-humidity areas, we offer an optional UV-resistant clear topcoat to further extend the finish’s lifespan.
When chipping or peeling does occur—often due to accidental scratches from maintenance equipment or furniture rearrangement—we recommend the following factory-backed steps:
1. Surface Preparation: Sand the damaged area with fine-grit sandpaper (220–320 grit) to feather the edges and remove any loose coating. Blow off all dust and clean with isopropyl alcohol.
2. Touch-Up Application: Apply our factory-matched, air-dry powder coat touch-up paint in thin, even layers. For smaller chips, a spray can or precision pen is ideal; for larger areas, a mini HVLP spray gun will yield smoother results.
3. Curing: Allow the repair to cure for at least 24 hours at room temperature. If a bake-on process is required, our remote field-service team can use portable infrared heaters to cure the coating to factory standards.
4. Full Refinishing: If peeling affects more than 30% of the bench surface, we recommend a complete refinish. Customers can return the bench to our factory for media blasting and re-powder coating, which restores the original high-gloss finish and warranty status.
We also provide a limited warranty (typically 5 years) against premature peeling under normal use. Should a structural defect in the coating process be identified, we offer free replacement or full refinishing. For all other cases, we sell affordable touch-up kits and provide video tutorials to help DIY users achieve professional results.
Ultimately, our factory’s philosophy is proactive: by fortifying the initial finish and offering clear, accessible repair pathways, we aim to keep every outdoor bench looking like new for years to come.
