From the factory floor to your backyard, the finish on your outdoor bench is engineered to withstand sun, rain, and snow. But even the toughest coating needs care. As a manufacturer, we recommend a simple routine to preserve that like-new sheen for years. The key is to understand what material you have. For powder-coated metal or aluminum benches, our #1 tip is prevention: rinse with a garden hose every two weeks to remove pollen, bird droppings, and dust, which can etch the paint over time. Use a mild soap (like dish soap) and a soft sponge once a month. Avoid abrasive scrubbers or pressure washers, as they can chip the factory coating. For teak or hardwood benches, our advice pivots: do not seal it immediately. Allow the wood to weather naturally for 2-3 months, then apply a high-quality UV-protective sealer every 12-18 months. Teak oil is optional but not required—it changes the silver-gray patina to amber. For recycled plastic (HDPE) benches, just suds and water work. Never use bleach, which can cause yellowing and micro-cracking. All benches benefit from seasonal vigilance: before winter, clean thoroughly and consider a breathable cover (not plastic, which traps moisture). After winter, inspect for cracks in the powder coat or loose fasteners—tightening bolts prevents stress fractures that ruin the finish. True factory care isn’t about complex chemicals.
