At our trash can factory, we take playground safety personally. When kids are running, jumping, and tumbling around, a tipping trash can isn't just a mess—it's a hazard. That’s why our engineering team has developed a multi-layered anti-tip system that turns a simple receptacle into a rock-solid safety anchor.
First, we lower the center of gravity. Every playground model we produce features a heavy, molded base that is deliberately wider than the top opening. This base is not bolted on; it is co-molded with the body, creating a single, seamless unit. By placing most of the weight just six inches off the ground, we make it physically difficult for a child’s accidental bump—or even a full-speed shoulder check—to generate enough torque to overturn the bin.
Second, we use a “ballast pocket” design. The floor of the bin is recessed, forming an internal cavity where site operators can insert sand or a weighted polyurethane block. This customizable ballast option allows playground staff to adjust stability based on wind load and surface conditions. Even an empty bin with our standard base resists a sideways force of 45 pounds; with the optional ballast, that resistance jumps to over 80 pounds.
Third, our footplate is not just a decorative ring. It extends outward by 2.5 inches in all directions, acting like a stabilizer fin. When a child runs past and clips the bin, the footplate transfers the kinetic energy into the ground rather than letting the bin pivot. We also rubberize the underside of the footplate, which grips both asphalt and rubber playground surfaces, reducing slide even on inclines.
Finally, we test every batch in our factory’s “run-and-bump” chamber. A robotic arm simulates a child’s collision at speeds of up to 5 miles per hour, from four different angles. The bin must remain within a 10-degree lean during the test and fully self-right after impact. Only then do we stamp it with our “PlaySafe” certification.
Our recessed lid design also prevents prying fingers, and the rounded corners eliminate sharp edges that could cause cuts during a fall. We do all this because we know a trash can in a playground should be as boring and predictable as a bench—quiet, steady, and completely unobtrusive. That’s the promise from our factory: a bin that stays put, so kids can keep playing and parents can breathe easy.
