On the other hand, a cast-iron bench with teak or recycled plastic slats can easily reach 110 to 130 pounds, offering a more permanent, high-end installation.
For most parks, commercial streetscapes, and restaurant patios, the sweet spot is our mid-range heavy-duty series. These benches use a 14-gauge steel frame, stainless steel fasteners, and five slats of either tropical hardwood, cedar, or recycled HDPE. In a 6-foot length, that design usually weighs 72 to 82 pounds. Add armrests, a center support, or a backplate with logo mounting holes, and the weight rises by 5 to 10 pounds. Add a concrete mounting base or anchoring plate, and you can expect another 20 to 30 pounds.
Shipping weight is also different from the actual bench weight. A 75-pound bench typically leaves our factory at 85 to 90 pounds after corrugated cardboard, corner protectors, stretch wrap, and wooden pallets are included. If you are ordering a container load, you should plan for that packaging weight as well.
Why does this matter? Weight is one of the most reliable signals of durability. A heavier bench often means thicker steel, stronger welds, and more substantial slats. It also means the bench will resist wind gusts, resist being dragged, and stay in place under everyday public use. Lighter benches are easier to install and relocate, but they may require bolting to a hard surface for security.
