At our planter box factory, the answer is both yes and no—depending entirely on your project’s needs. Our standard planter boxes come with solid, one-piece bottoms that provide structural strength, prevent soil leakage, and maintain a clean, finished appearance. However, for tree planting applications, we offer a customizable removable bottom option. This design allows for direct root penetration into the ground below, which is essential for long-term tree health in urban landscaping, orchard installations, or large-scale green spaces. A removable bottom typically consists of a separate base panel secured by flanges or interlocking tracks. It can be lifted out to create an open-bottom planter, enabling roots to grow naturally while the container still holds soil during early development. This hybrid approach gives you the flexibility to transition from above-ground planting to in-ground planting without replacing the entire planter box. For clients who prefer a permanent open-bottom system, we can also produce reinforced planter boxes with fully removable base panels that are simply placed over a prepared pit. The non-removable solid version remains ideal for trees that will stay in the container permanently, as it retains moisture and prevents root escape. We recommend consulting our engineers to assess your tree species, climate, and installation method. With high-density polyethylene, fiberglass, or powder-coated steel, we manufacture both solid-bottom and removable-bottom planters in any size. In short, choose solid for contained growth, or choose our optional removable bottom for unrestricted root expansion. Every unit is fabricated with precision, and we are happy to provide free samples so you can inspect the mechanism firsthand.
