Specifically, we use a borate-based wood preservative that is applied under pressure, allowing it to penetrate deep into the lumber rather than just coating the surface. Borates are naturally occurring mineral salts that are highly effective against termites, carpenter ants, and wood-boring beetles. Importantly, the treatment is safe for plants, humans, and pets once the wood has cured and dried, so your vegetables, flowers, and herbs will not absorb any harmful residues.

Our process follows strict EPA guidelines and meets the standards of the American Wood Protection Association. Every batch of treated wood is tested for retention and penetration to ensure consistent, long-lasting protection. We also seal the finished planter boxes with a weather-resistant exterior coating, which adds another layer of defense against moisture and reduces the risk of fungal decay that often attracts termites.

Because the southeast can be particularly challenging, we also design our planter boxes with proper drainage holes and raised bottom slats to minimize water pooling, which further discourages termite activity. Plus, we offer a limited warranty against termite damage, so you can feel confident placing our boxes in your garden, patio, or greenhouse.

If you have already purchased an untreated planter box elsewhere, we recommend keeping it off bare soil, elevating it on concrete blocks or gravel, and regularly inspecting the bottom edges for mud tubes.
