In high-humidity environments, we recommend a textured powder coat over a hot-dip galvanized substrate. The galvanized layer provides sacrificial protection, while the powder coat seals out the constant atmospheric moisture. This combination is far more durable than standard paint finishes.
For wooden benches, the best choice is a high-quality teak oil or a penetrating exterior sealer with UV inhibitors. Teak oil soaks deep into the grain, stabilizing the wood against the expansion and contraction caused by damp air. It also allows the wood to breathe, preventing trapped moisture from warping the slats. We advise reapplying the oil twice a year—once before the rainy season and once after—to maintain the protective layer. Avoid film-forming varnishes or polyurethane, as they can crack and peel in humid conditions, allowing water to seep underneath.
If you prefer a maintenance-free wood option, we manufacture benches with synthetic teak (HDPE polymer). These require no finish at all and will never rot, split, or fade in a moist climate. However, if you are committed to natural wood, our factory’s tested recommendation is: hot-dip galvanized or stainless steel hardware, a 60–80% gloss powder coat for the frame, and pure teak oil with a mildewcide additive for the seats. This system has proven itself in coastal and tropical regions, where humidity levels often exceed 80% year-round.
