First, the steel gauge we use for the main body of our standard heavy-duty trash can is 14-gauge (approximately 1.9 mm) ASTM A653 galvanized steel. This is the same gauge range commonly used in industrial dumpsters and high-abuse municipal bins. For the lid and bottom reinforcement, we step up to 12-gauge (about 2.5 mm) steel, because those areas take the most impact from dropping and dragging. If you order our “industrial plus” variant, the sidewall thickness increases to 13-gauge (about 2.3 mm) with a double-hemmed top rim.

All steel is hot-dip galvanized on both sides with a coating weight of G90 (0.90 oz/ft²) to resist corrosion in outdoor and wet environments. After welding, we apply a powder-coat finish over a zinc-rich primer, which gives an extra layer of protection against scratching and rust.
We also test every production batch. The spec sheet includes our “static load test” and “abuse test” results. For example, the TD-32HD holds a static load of 400 lb (181 kg) without permanent deformation of the sidewall. In our drop test, the can filled with 50 lb of sand is dropped from 6 feet onto concrete, and the bottom must not crack or separate from the sidewall. That test is done five times on the same unit.
