Solid wood benches are kiln-dried and then pressure-treated with modern preservatives, such as ACQ or copper azole, to protect against termites, borers, powderpost beetles, carpenter ants, and decay. We also seal cut ends and apply protective finishes that help block moisture and insect entry. For WPC and HDPE benches, insects do not feed on the material, so chemical insect treatment is not necessary; these benches are naturally resistant and can include UV and anti-microbial additives for extra durability. Metal and concrete benches are also not vulnerable to insect damage. Once the treatment has cured, properly finished benches are safe for normal outdoor use.
