Your planter box factory’s website shows cedar options—are those sustainably harvested, or plantation-grown?

2026-09-20 Visits: Abstract: Discover whether our cedar planter box factory uses sustainably harvested or plantation-grown cedar, plus certifications, sourcing checks, and responsible wood options.

Thank you for asking. The short answer is that our cedar planter boxes can be made with both sustainably harvested cedar and plantation-grown cedar, depending on the product line, cedar species, and certification you request. We do not treat those two categories as opposites. A plantation-grown tree can be responsibly managed, and a naturally regenerated forest can be poorly managed. What matters most is the sourcing system behind the wood.

Most of our Western Red Cedar and Eastern White Cedar comes from certified, responsibly managed forests. These forests are managed under plans that require replanting, selective harvesting, protection of waterways and wildlife habitat, and regular audits. Where available, we buy FSC-certified cedar, and we can also source PEFC or SFI certified material. For customers who need a specific claim, we provide chain-of-custody documentation and can quote FSC 100%, FSC Mix, or FSC Recycled where supply allows.

Some of our cedar options are plantation-grown. Plantation-grown cedar is grown on managed land specifically for timber production. When managed well, with appropriate species, soil care, and harvesting cycles, it can reduce pressure on natural forests and provide a steady, consistent supply. Plantation-grown cedar may have different grain patterns, growth-ring spacing, and natural durability than slower-grown forest cedar. For planter boxes, that can affect appearance, weight, and outdoor performance. We therefore recommend the right grade for the right use rather than assuming one source is always better.

We do not source from old-growth forests or high-conservation-value areas. We also do not accept illegally harvested timber or wood from unknown origins. Before a cedar batch enters production, we check species, origin, supplier records, and certification status. If a customer requires a fully certified sustainable cedar planter box, we can reserve certified material and keep it separated through milling, assembly, and shipping.

On our website, the cedar options are listed by species, grade, and finish, not always by harvest method, because availability changes by season and supplier. If you want to know exactly what you are buying, ask us for the current sourcing sheet for your chosen planter box. We can tell you whether that batch is FSC-certified, plantation-grown, or from a responsibly managed natural forest, and we can provide the documentation to support it.

In short, our factory offers cedar that is sustainably harvested where certification and responsible forest management are available, and we also offer plantation-grown cedar when it suits the product and the customer’s goals. The best choice depends on your project’s priorities, including durability, appearance, budget, certification, and environmental impact. We are happy to match you with the most responsible cedar option for your planter boxes.
