At our outdoor bench factory, the standard seat width for a three-person bench is generally 500 mm to 600 mm (19.7 inches to 23.6 inches) per person. For most commercial outdoor benches, we recommend 600 mm (23.6 inches) per seat. That gives a total usable seating width of about 1,800 mm (70.9 inches) across three seats. In more compact designs, especially for schools, transit stops, or narrow walkways, the factory standard can drop to 500 mm (19.7 inches) per seat, producing a total seating width of 1,500 mm (59.1 inches).
It is important to separate seat width from overall bench length. A three-person outdoor bench with 600 mm seats may have an overall length of 1,800 mm if the seats sit side by side without armrests. If the bench has armrests, curved end frames, or thick side panels, the outside width often grows to 1,900–2,000 mm (74.8–78.7 inches). Conversely, a 1,500 mm bench may be marketed as a three-seater, but each person gets only 500 mm, which can feel tight for adults in heavy coats.
Our default factory specification for a comfortable commercial three-person bench is:
- Individual seat width: 600 mm (23.6 in)
- Total usable seat width: 1,800 mm (70.9 in)
- Seat depth: 450–500 mm (17.7–19.7 in)
- Seat height: 430–450 mm (16.9–17.7 in)
- Overall length with armrests: 1,900–2,000 mm (74.8–78.7 in)
This 600 mm per-seat standard works well for parks, campuses, hospitals, shopping centers, and municipal spaces. It allows people to sit without shoulder contact, makes room for bags or winter clothing, and keeps the bench visually balanced. If a client needs higher density seating, we can produce 500 mm or 550 mm per seat; if the project calls for premium comfort, we can increase each seat to 650 mm (25.6 in) or more.
Keep in mind that there is no single global standard for outdoor bench seat width. Regional norms, local accessibility rules, target users, and material choices all affect the final dimension. However, as an outdoor bench factory, our most common production standard for a three-person bench is 1,800 mm overall with three 600 mm seating sections. We can adjust the seat width, depth, height, and armrest spacing to match your drawings, ergonomic goals, and installation site. For project-specific work, we provide dimensioned CAD drawings before production so you can confirm the exact seat width and overall footprint.
