At our planter box factory, the minimum order quantity for custom sizes usually begins at 100 pieces per size and finish. That means if you need a non-standard length, width, height, or depth, 100 units is the normal starting point for a production run. This quantity allows us to set up cutting, milling, assembly, sanding, and finishing efficiently while keeping unit costs reasonable.

For simpler custom planter boxes, such as basic rectangular wooden boxes using standard timber, natural stain or no finish, and no logo, we can sometimes accept a trial order of 50 pieces. This is intended for customers testing a new market, checking a retail display concept, or confirming craftsmanship before placing a larger order.

The MOQ increases when the project becomes more specialized. If your planter box requires custom dimensions plus custom color matching, laser engraving, branded packaging, weatherproof treatment, metal liners, drainage systems, or mixed materials such as wood and metal, the MOQ may be 300–500 pieces per SKU. Fully custom shapes, new molds, or unusual joinery can require an even higher volume.

Several factors influence the final MOQ: material availability, size, finish, hardware, packaging, and labeling. For example, a small pine planter box with a clear sealer may start at 100 pieces, while a large cedar planter with a powder-coated metal frame and retail-ready carton may start at 300 pieces. Colors and sizes also affect setup, because each unique size or finish is usually counted as a separate SKU.
