What’s the standard height of a bench from your outdoor bench factory—is it ADA compliant?

2026-09-29 Visits: Abstract: Outdoor bench factory standard seat height is 17–19 in (430–485 mm). It can meet ADA Section 903.3 when installed with required clear space and features.

From our outdoor bench factory, the standard seat height is 17 to 19 inches (430 to 485 mm), measured from the finished ground surface to the top of the seat. For most commercial, park, and public-space projects, we use 18 inches (457 mm) as the nominal target because it sits comfortably in the middle of that range and works well for ADA-focused specifications.

Is it ADA compliant? The height can be ADA compliant, but the bench is not automatically ADA compliant just because it is 17–19 inches high. The 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design, Section 903.3, set the seat height for benches at 17–19 inches above the finish floor or ground. If your project requires ADA compliance, we can manufacture the bench to that seat-height range. However, compliance also depends on the full installation: clear floor space, seat dimensions, ground slope, surface firmness and stability, access route, and other applicable requirements. A bench on a steep slope, soft gravel, or with blocked transfer space may not comply even if the seat height is correct.

For non-ADA or residential-style outdoor benches, we can produce 16–20 inch seat heights depending on the design, cushion, or client preference. Still, when you ask for an ADA-compliant outdoor bench, we recommend keeping the seat height at 17–19 inches, confirming the local accessibility code, and reviewing the entire installation. That way, the finished bench is not only at the right height—it is specified as part of an accessible outdoor seating area.
