As a commercial trash can factory, we do not use one universal lock for every bin. The right lock depends on the bin’s size, lid design, collection method, and the security level the customer needs. For most indoor commercial bins, such as office, retail, and food-court models, our standard choice is a keyed cam lock. It is usually made from die-cast zinc or stainless steel, with a quarter-turn cam that catches a steel strike plate inside the lid or body. This lock can be keyed alike for easy management or keyed differently for restricted access. A weather-resistant key slot cover is often added for outdoor use.
For heavy-duty outdoor bins and dumpsters, we commonly fit a padlockable hasp or latch. This is a reinforced steel or stainless-steel loop that accepts a customer-supplied padlock or a factory-issued padlock. It provides strong resistance to forced opening and is easy to replace if damaged. Some models use a slam lock or self-locking latch instead. The lid locks automatically when it is closed, and staff release it with a key, hex tool, or release handle. This design reduces labor and helps prevent unauthorized dumping.
For smart commercial bins, we install electronic locks. These may use RFID cards, key fobs, PIN codes, Bluetooth, or mobile credentials. They can record who opened the bin and when, which is useful for waste-audit programs, apartment complexes, and high-traffic public areas. In food-waste or medical bins, we may use stainless-steel locks with sealed housings and antimicrobial coatings to support hygiene and corrosion resistance.
Every lock is tested for cycle life, salt-spray resistance, and impact strength. We also offer custom keying, logo engraving, and lock color matching. If you tell us your bin model, collection method, and security goal, we can recommend the right lock rather than a one-size-fits-all option.
