The key is to design the rear face as a true flat plane, with the back panel, side edges, and top trim aligned so no protruding fasteners, battens, or lips create a gap. We build to your wall type and measurements, whether you need a long narrow trough, a tall rectangular box, or modular units lined up along a facade.

To make a flush fit practical, not just tight, we focus on four details. First, a straight, sealed back panel. We can use cedar, marine-grade plywood, composite, aluminum, or powder-coated steel. The back is sanded, sealed, and optionally lined with a waterproof barrier to protect the wall. Second, drainage and airflow. Water must never be trapped against the building. We place drainage holes toward the front or side, add a gravel or drainage-cell layer, and can include a slight internal slope away from the wall. If the wall needs ventilation, we can design a recessed back frame that still looks flush from the front while keeping a small hidden air gap. Third, hidden mounting. A French cleat, Z-clip, stainless L-bracket, or concealed adjustable rail can lock the box to the wall without visible hardware. Fourth, wall protection. We recommend a waterproof membrane, neoprene or EPDM pads, and stainless fasteners. For masonry, stucco, siding, or brick, we adjust the rear shape and sealing method so the box follows the wall cleanly.
