Thank you for your question. From our trash can factory, the fire safety rating of metal bins is not one fixed number across every model. The metal body—whether carbon steel, stainless steel, galvanized steel, or aluminum—is inherently non-combustible and does not fuel a fire. In most commercial specifications, our standard all-metal bins are therefore described as Class A or non-combustible for the metal body. When tested to EN 13501-1, bare metal components typically achieve A1 or A2 reaction-to-fire performance, while ASTM E84 testing commonly treats metal surfaces as Class A for flame spread and smoke development, subject to the exact test report.
The final rating depends on three details: the metal grade and thickness, the surface finish such as powder coating, paint, or galvanizing, and any non-metal parts including plastic liners, wheels, bumpers, or lids. A powder-coated steel bin may have an A2-s1,d0 or similar classification depending on coating thickness and test method, while plastic accessories carry their own fire ratings. For this reason, we do not apply one universal fire rating to every metal bin. Instead, we confirm the rating by SKU and provide available test documentation for the specific model.
For fire-sensitive areas—hotel corridors, hospitals, schools, airports, and commercial kitchens—we recommend all-metal construction with minimal plastic, self-closing or tight-fitting metal lids, and optional liners made from metal or fire-retardant materials. These features help limit oxygen, contain waste, and reduce the chance of a bin contributing to fire spread. They do not make the bin a fire extinguisher or a fire-rated container. If you need a certified fire-resistant waste container, we can quote a specialized model with documented testing.
To answer directly: standard metal bins from our trash can factory are generally rated as non-combustible or Class A for the metal body, with SKU-specific reaction-to-fire classifications such as A1 or A2 to EN 13501-1 when tested. Please share your target market, required standard such as EN, ASTM, or GB, and the model number so our team can confirm the exact fire safety rating and supply the matching test report.
