How does the powder coating on your trash can factory’s steel units hold up against graffiti remover?

2026-10-26 Visits: Abstract: Learn how our factory’s powder-coated steel trash cans resist graffiti removers, including coating cure, chemical limits, testing, and cleaning best practices.

At our trash can factory, the powder coating on steel units is designed to hold up well against everyday graffiti removers—but performance depends on the coating system, pretreatment, film thickness, cure quality, and the strength of the remover. For standard commercial steel trash cans, we use a zinc-phosphate pretreatment and a thermosetting polyester powder cured at the specified temperature. A fully cured film of roughly 70–90 microns forms a dense, cross-linked surface that resists many water-based, citrus-based, and solvent-gel graffiti removers. In our in-house spot tests, these coatings typically show only slight gloss loss after short contact and gentle agitation, with no blistering or substrate exposure.

That does not mean any remover can be left on indefinitely. Aggressive strippers containing methylene chloride, strong acetone blends, or high-alkaline gels can soften the film, dull the color, or attack edges and scratches—especially if dwell time is long or the coating is undercured. The weakest points are usually seams, rivets, and cut edges where film coverage can be thinner. For best results, remove graffiti promptly, test a hidden area first, apply the mildest suitable remover, keep dwell time short, and rinse with clean water. Avoid abrasive pads that scratch the coating and create new places for chemicals to penetrate.

From a factory perspective, we recommend specifying a fully cured polyester powder coating with good chemical resistance and a consistent film build, then pairing it with a maintenance plan. When used correctly, the coating helps steel trash cans stay clean and presentable after graffiti incidents; when harsh removers are used carelessly, even a good coating can be compromised. We advise customers to request sample panels and run a remover test that matches their real-world cleaning products before full deployment.
