Shipping large fiberglass planters safely is a packaging and handling discipline, not a last-minute task. At our factory, protection begins before the planter reaches the packing line. We inspect each unit for full cure, uniform wall thickness, reinforced corners, and a clean gelcoat surface. Any weak point that could become a stress riser in transit is corrected first. Planters are then cleaned, dried, and fitted with removable inserts or internal blocking where needed so the walls cannot flex inward under strap tension.
For packaging, we design the shipping method around the planter’s size, shape, weight, and finish. Small and medium planters may travel in double-wall corrugated cartons with molded foam corner guards, EPE foam wraps, and a moisture-barrier liner. Large fiberglass planters usually require a custom plywood crate. The planter sits on a padded wooden base that distributes weight across the bottom rather than concentrating it on a few contact points. We use closed-cell foam, heavy-duty bubble wrap, or custom foam blocks at the rim, corners, and base—the areas most likely to chip or crack. The crate is built with internal blocking and bracing so the planter cannot shift, rock, or strike the crate walls.
We also control compression. Straps are never pulled directly against finished fiberglass. We use foam pads and edge protectors, and we tension straps only enough to secure the load. For tall planters, we add diagonal bracing or a top frame to prevent tipping and side impact. Forklift pockets and clearly marked lifting points help handlers move the crate without dropping it or pushing against the planter body.
Before loading, every crate is weighed, labeled, and checked against the freight plan. We load containers and LTL trailers with heavy crates low and evenly distributed. Crates are blocked against pallets or trailer walls with dunnage, and we avoid stacking unless the crate is engineered for it. Shock and tilt indicators can be added to high-value orders so any rough handling is visible on arrival.
Finally, we choose freight partners who handle oversized decorative products regularly and provide clear loading photos. With engineered crates, foam cushioning, correct bracing, controlled strapping, and careful loading, large fiberglass planters arrive ready for installation—not for repair.
