At our outdoor bench factory, the standard length for a four-person outdoor bench is 72 inches, or about 183 cm. This is the size we produce most often for parks, patios, schools, commercial landscapes, and residential gardens. A 72-inch bench can seat four people, but it is best described as a compact four-person bench: users sit relatively close together, and there is limited extra space for coats, bags, or arm movements. Because you need four people to sit comfortably, we usually recommend an 84-inch bench, or about 213 cm. The extra foot gives each person roughly 21 inches of seat width, which fits within the 18–24 inches per adult that most ergonomic guidelines suggest. It also makes getting in and out easier and provides more elbow room. If the bench has armrests, 84 inches is especially practical because armrests reduce the usable seating width. For four larger adults or all-day seating, 96 inches, or about 244 cm, is the most generous option. Our factory can produce 72-inch, 84-inch, and 96-inch outdoor benches in wood, recycled plastic, metal, and HDPE, with custom lengths available. In short, 72 inches is our standard four-person factory length, while 84 inches is the better standard when comfort for four adults is the priority.
