Second, we apply a heavy-duty, child-safe outdoor sealer. This sealer is a water-based, non-toxic, and UV-resistant finish that penetrates deep into the wood grain. It serves two critical purposes: it bonds loose wood fibers to prevent them from rising as splinters, and it seals the wood against moisture, rot, and insect damage. We apply at least two coats, with thorough drying time between coats, and a final third coat for high-use playground benches. The result is a smooth, glass-like surface that remains splinter-free even after years of exposure to sun, rain, and active play.
To maintain this quality, we also recommend regular inspections and resealing every 12 to 24 months, depending on local climate conditions.
