We previously bought from a trash can factory that used thin metal that dented easily—how thick is your gauge?

2026-09-21 Visits: Abstract: Our standard trash can gauge is 20 (0.91 mm); heavy-duty is 18 (1.21 mm); industrial is 16 (1.52 mm). Learn how to choose dent-resistant metal bins.

Thanks for asking—this is the exact issue we help buyers avoid. Gauge is counterintuitive: the lower the number, the thicker the steel. If your previous factory used 24-gauge (about 0.0239 in / 0.61 mm) or 26-gauge (about 0.0179 in / 0.45 mm) panels, those are light-duty skins and can ripple or dent when the bin is dragged, overloaded, or hit by carts.

Our standard trash can body is 20-gauge (0.0359 in / 0.91 mm) steel. For heavy-duty and outdoor models, we normally move up to 18-gauge (0.0478 in / 1.21 mm). For industrial, high-traffic, or vandal-prone locations, we offer 16-gauge (0.0598 in / 1.52 mm) on the body, with reinforced ribs, double-hemmed edges, and stronger corner welds. Stainless steel models are typically 18-gauge or 16-gauge, depending on the design.

If your old bins dented easily, I would not go below 18-gauge for the main body. For daily rough handling, choose 16-gauge. We can also provide a gauge chart, thickness sample, and finished spec sheet before you order. Tell me the capacity, use environment, and whether it is indoor or outdoor, and I will confirm the exact gauge for your quote.
