Thank you for your interest in our outdoor bench factory’s recycled plastic benches. The honest answer is that they can become warm in direct summer sun, but they are generally more comfortable than metal benches and can be designed to stay cooler in hot weather.
Recycled plastic benches are usually made from HDPE, a material with much lower thermal conductivity than steel or aluminum. This means the bench does not draw heat away from the body or transfer heat to the skin as aggressively as metal does. However, no outdoor bench is completely immune to summer heat. Surface temperature depends on color, sun exposure, air temperature, bench thickness and seat design.
Color makes a major difference. Dark colors such as black, dark brown and dark green absorb more solar radiation and can feel noticeably warmer. Light colors such as beige, light gray, sand and pale green reflect more sunlight and are a better choice for hot climates. UV-stabilized recycled plastic also helps the bench resist fading and sun damage, although UV stabilization is for material durability rather than cooling.
Seat design is equally important. Slatted or perforated seats allow air to move and reduce the amount of material in direct contact with the user. Thick, solid surfaces can retain more heat, while open profiles tend to feel cooler. Shade from trees, canopies or nearby buildings will always improve comfort more than material choice alone.
As a factory, we recommend choosing a light color, a slatted design and UV-stabilized recycled plastic for sunny locations. If your summer temperatures are extreme, we can also discuss ventilated profiles, sample testing and surface-temperature checks under local conditions. Recycled plastic benches are a practical, durable outdoor seating option, but the most comfortable result comes from matching color, design and placement to your climate. We are happy to provide samples so you can test them in your own summer environment.
